That's going to be a tough one to figure out.

You may be able to get some numbers for USA shooters from the NRA, but there are a fair number of folks that shoot in matches that aren't NRA-approved and therefore won't be counted.

I have no idea how you would get numbers for shooters from other parts of the world short of contacting every nation's silhouette governing body for estimates.

The numbers from NRA may be incomplete, but they would provide some insight into overall trend. If there are attendance data for the Nationals, that might provide some insight into the long-term trend as well.
