Simple job… new old rifle, extractor was fit too shy and loose… just purchased from original owner but not going to hassle C.Sharps about it. They were nice enough to sell me an unfitted extractor and I am capable so…. (1875 C.Sharp sport rifle)
Extractor fails to extract 90% of the time… too short/loose. Disassemble the rifle and verify new part is correct, test fit, remove metal from where it interferes till extractor will fit flush and block will close, cut chamber recess and extractor rim…. Verify function, harden, reblue, reassemble and test fire. I’m handy and took me 4+ hours… you can remove metal but putting it back is a PITB. Reasonable competent smith would be at least a couple hours…. This is why even a little job can be pricey.
